GENDER-NET partners MINECO (Spain), F.R.S.-FNRS (Belgium), CIHR (Canada) and CNRS (France) have organised this expert workshop, which focused on the analysis of the main findings of the Compendium of existing national and regional initiatives on the integration of the gender dimension in research contents developed by the WP3 Task 2a and Task 2b leaders CNRS and CIHR (Deliverable 3.9).
Following a short introduction by WP3 Task 2c co-Leader Freia Van Hee (F.R.S.-FNRS), an overview of the GENDER-NET initiative given by project coordinator Anne Pépin (CNRS) and a presentation of the objectives of the workshop by WP3 co-Leader Ana Puy (MINECO), the first session of the workshop was dedicated to the presentation of the main findings of an online survey carried out in 2014 by GENDER-NET on national and regional strategies, policies, programmes, plans and strategies fostering the effective integration of sex and gender considerations into research contents – and the resulting compendium of initiatives per country – and to presentations from an expert panel:
- Londa Schiebinger, Professor of History of Science at Stanford University (USA) and Director of the EU-US Gendered Innovations project (see video below)
- Sabine Haubenwallner, Senior policy officer in charge of special programmes and gender issues at the Austrian Science Fund-FWF (Austria) and Chair of the Science Europe Working Group on Gender and Diversity
- Viviane Willis-Mazzichi, Head of the Gender sector at Unit B7-Science With and For Society, European Commission, DG Research & Innovation
This first morning session of February 26th, to which we had invited Brussels-based research policy-makers and MEPs involved in the development of EU level policies for research and innovation and/or for gender equality, was followed by a working session on the afternoon of February 26th and the morning of the 27th for project partners only, aimed at preparing the detailed comparative report, which is to be the core reference for developing common criteria, guidelines, recognition schemes, and other implementing tools on the integration of sex/gender in the contents of research.
This very productive working session was facilitated by Maria Scordialos .
